The way to God

Sometimes God steps suddenly into our lives

He loves us so much that he wants us to know him. His plan is to give our life a real purpose and to have fellowship with us eternally. Although this is a wonderful plan, we choose to go our own way, cutting ourselves off from God. We do what is wrong and don’t care about the fullness of life that God has in store for us. This is called sin and it creates a big gap between God and us.

We cannot please God with good deeds or by being religious

We can never bridge the gap ourselves. All our own efforts are in vain. God is holy and righteous. He cannot stand sin and leave it unpunished. The consequences of sin are judgement and eternal separation from God.

But God offers us eternal life

Because of his great love for us God sent his son Jesus Christ to bridge the gap. Jesus Christ became man and lived a perfect life without sin. At the cross he paid the penalty for our sin and restored our relationship with God.

Jesus Christ is the only way to God

Jesus is risen from the dead. He is the only mediator between God and man. Only through faith in him do we gain access to God’s grace. Jesus returned to heaven to prepare a place for us. He is coming again, to take believers to be with him forever.

A relationship with God is possible again

Anyone who believes in Jesus Christ and receives him into his life will cross the bridge and have fellowship with God. How can we be part of it? We need to admit our failures and confess our sin before God and before the people that we have wronged. We ask God to forgive us and thank him for the free gift of his salvation. We ask Jesus Christ to take control of our lives. God changes us through his Spirit and enables us to live according to his will.

Now we belong to God’s family

From now on our life has a new purpose. We will enjoy God’s presence in our life. God gives us the assurance of eternal life. His word (the Bible) will teach us to love, trust and follow him, so that our life will honour God and be a blessing for others. Through regular prayer, Bible reading and fellowship with other followers of Jesus Christ we will find help and guidance on our way.
