Designed for a Purpose

Animals have very efficient communication systems, which they use to converse with one another. It would be unique if animals could talk in our language and tell us about the way they live and the special way they are made. In the book “If Animals Could Talk”, Werner Gitt takes us into the animal world. Let us just listen to some facts about the blue whale, the giant of the animal kingdom.

“I am the largest of all 80 types of whale. My body’s weight is many times more than the largest dinosaurs. In fact, I am the largest animal that has ever existed on earth. To match my weight, you would have to bring together a herd of 28 elephants, or 170 oxen. If you wanted to match my weight with human beings, you would need 2,000 people. – At 33 metres long, I am the longest creature of all. I would easily be longer than a column of 4 buses. – My skeleton weighs 22 tons, and my body-fat 25 tons. In addition, my flesh weighs 50 tons. My tongue alone is as heavy as an elephant. My heart is 1.2 metres in diameter, and weighs as much as a horse. It pumps a grand total of 10,000 litres of blood through my system. My aorta is a tube with a diameter of more than 50 centimetres”.

Anything we look at in nature is wonderfully designed, whether in macrocosm or microcosm. It is very difficult to think that there is no master mind behind all this, a designer with great capability. To think that ‘it just happened by chance or gradual development’ is like making fun of an architect’s or a car designer’s project, assuming that their work is for nothing and houses or cars would just form themselves, if only given enough time.

If we consider the human being there is still another dimension at stake. In addition to the functioning of our bodies, we have an intellect. We are capable of expressing ourselves, of studying and designing. Only humans ask,

Who am I? Where do I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going?

However, we must admit, that we can find no easy answers to these questions. We must consult the ‘designer’ (see John 1:1-3). But how can we know His thoughts and His ways? Isaiah 55:8-9 says in God’s (the designer’s) book, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” However, he did reveal a lot of His thoughts to us in His book, the Bible. But then,

have not scientists disproved the Bible?

Let us look at Roger Carswell’s answer in ‘Questions and answers from the Bible’,

“The scientists have not disproved the Bible. There is absolutely nothing in testable scientific fact that is contrary to what the Bible teaches. Although the Bible is not a scientific text book it is perfectly consistent with all provable scientific teaching. – There are scientists who do not believe the Bible; but that is because they are people who do not believe the Bible; not because they are scientists! There are literally thousands of scientists who read, believe and seek to live by the Bible.

In relation to creation or evolution, it is well to remember that evolution has not and cannot be proved. It is merely theory. A few years ago all the pupils were told that the world is 30 billion years old. Then evolutionists changed their mind saying it was 15 billion years old. That was a big mistake! Supposing it was still another 15 billion younger!

Christians are not anti-science. We are in agreement with theories such as gravity, electromagnetism, planets revolving round the sun, but we disagree with the evolution theory because it does not fit into the great picture of truth, it is like a foreign piece in a jigsaw.”

Let us remember that science has many inadequacies. It does not explain kindness, love, beauty, friendship, fairness, evil and good, where we are going, or the spiritual dimension and human desire to worship, which is found in all people. This world is not the result of a big bang, but a master plan!

A personal relationship with our Creator

Why not find out more about the designer? He not only created us, He also has a personal interest in us. In His word, the Bible, we can find out more about the ‘fall of man’ and how mankind has gone its own way. But in spite all that has gone wrong, God has not given us up. He has prepared a way to save us through Jesus Christ whom He sent into this world. The New Testament shows you how to find the power to live a life honouring God, living in a personal relationship and at peace with our Creator. “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Please accept our offer for a free New Testament (part of the Bible) and find out for yourself.
