God still sees you

God still sees you

Only too often our two year old boy got himself into mischief. One day he turned the water tap on and had great fun letting the water run down the drain. I called, “Matthias, what are you doing?” – No answer! – The water was still streaming down, so I went to see where the child was. He had disappeared. “Where are you, Matthias?” – No answer! – So I looked around and ?nally found him. There he was crouching in the furthest corner of a room, with his little hands tightly clasped over his eyes.

Wasn’t he a clever little boy?

I think he was and smiled when I saw him there with his eyes tightly shut, quite certain that no one would see him. He knew that he was not allowed to waste any water and so he didn’t want to meet his dad face to face. I guess our little one was brought back to reality very quickly when I stood before him, big and frightening.

Things don’t work out that way

Why was Matthias so unsuccessful in spite of all his efforts? That’s easy enough to explain, isn’t it. He shut his eyes and covered them with his hands, and seeing nothing himself, he hoped and wished that dad wouldn’t see him either. Poor fellow, it didn’t quite work out that way.

But do you know what?

Little Matthias’ behaviour taught me a good lesson. Hundreds of thousands of adults act in just the same way as my little son. The Bible says and nature con?rms it, “There is a God!” And yet thousands shut their spiritual eyes and reply boldly, “We can’t see him, therefore there is no God!” A very convincing proof, isn’t it. Well, I felt sorry for my little son whose logic had let him down so badly. And I feel sad and burdened when I think of all those multitudes who deny the existence of God and thus believe to have wiped him out.

Dear friend, God does not only exist in the minds of those people who believe in him. He is not just an idea or the result of our thinking. God’s existence does not depend on our thoughts. God existed long before your thoughts were there. He will still exist long after your body  will have decayed in the grave.

Don’t fool yourself!

The Bible says, “After death – judgement!” Even if you shut your eyes and reject the idea totally, this biblical statement is and remains valid irrespective of your personal thoughts on this matter.

In Revelation 20:12-13 we read, “And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.”

“Do you not know?”

asks Paul in 1 Corinthians 6:9, “that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will   inherit the kingdom of God.”

“Let no one deceive you

with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient” (Ephesians 5:6).

Dear friend, are you still under the wrath of God? Then you are in for something most terrible, as the Bible says in Revelation 20:14-15, “Then (after judgement) death and Hades were thrown into the lake of ?re. The lake of ?re is the second death. If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of ?re.”

Don’t say, “This is all nonsense. How could a God of love be so cruel?” Don’t let such shallow arguments deceive you.

The truth is

that God did absolutely everything He could to stop you from being tormented in hell. Jesus Christ overcame your worst enemy – Satan. Jesus Christ is also able to deal with the problem of sin in your life.

“For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God” (1 Peter 3:18). Jesus, the holy and perfect Son of Man and Son of God, took upon himself all our sin and guilt and shortcomings. He died the death of a cursed, wretched criminal on the Cross of Calvary.

What do you think of God’s love?

Did God express his love adequately towards us when He allowed his Son to be tortured and killed – the righteous for the unrighteous? Yes, certainly    He did! Therefore, if you do not respond to this wonderful love, you cannot blame God, if you will ?nd yourself suffering in the eternal lake of ?re, together with the originator of unbelief, that is Satan, the deceiver.

God does not want your destruction

… but rather he wants to share His glory with you. Paul expresses God’s desire very clearly when he makes this statement in Acts 17:30-31, “In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world.”

Dear friend, if you have been ignorant about God’s command or if you have been disobedient to God’s call for repentance, don’t delay it any longer.

Do not harden your heart

… but rather bring forth genuine fruits of repentance. This is not a super?cial and shallow “Sorry, for all I have done.” No, true repentance means a clear turning away from all sinful pleasures of this world. Repentance requires a clear cut between you and all the corrupt practices of our days. If you thoroughly repent, you start to hate what God hates and to love what God loves. Other fruits of true repentance become apparent in your life: stolen things are returned to their owners, dishonest dealings and lies are put right, quarrels are settled and many other things are dealt with. You realize that biblical repentance is more than just a cheap “Sorry”. And I can assure you that God will not remain silent to such a sincere change of heart and attitude.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

God has prepared a way:

God the Son, who is Jesus Christ, offered Himself as a perfect sacri?ce to God. “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us” (Ephesians 1:7-8).

God the Father accepts us back into his fellowship. “To all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12).

God the Holy Spirit reveals to us the truths regarding the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He witnesses to us and assures us of the forgiveness of sin. He is the author of the new birth and guarantees us an incorruptible body in the life to come.

Let yourself be trained by God

Dear friend, if you have truly repented and let God do his saving and restoring work in your life, then by God’s grace you will be able to walk in the light as God is light. The grace of God wants to train you to “say ‘No’ to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope – the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ” (Titus 2:12-13).

Think twice!

Wouldn’t you like to share an inexpressible glory with Jesus? Wouldn’t this be the most important and worthwhile goal to achieve in your life? Indeed it would!

But if you are still hesitating or even rejecting the authority of the Bible, let me tell you one thing again: Don’t act the way my little son did. Don’t think that by shutting your eyes you can wipe God out of existence.

    God is there
    He has spoken
And He will act upon His word
